I love stew and was one of the first
meals I attempted to make as a kid.
So through much trial and error here
is my recipe for Hauff Brau Stew
Ingredients
2-3 pounds Chuck roast, cubed
1 tablespoon bacon drippings
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 teaspoon cracked pepper
4 potatoes, diced
2 cups baby carrots
1 cup celery, sliced
1 onion, peeled and sliced
4 small garlic cloves, peeled
1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
1 packet crockpot beef
seasonings
5 cups water
1 cup peas
Method
1. Toss the garlic salt and
pepper with the raw chuck
roast cubes.
2. Heat the bacon drippings
in a hot skillet. Sear the
meat cubes on all sides.
3. In a large slow cooker
add the carrots, potatoes,
celery, onion, and garlic.
4. Transfer the seared meat
cubes to the slow cooker.
5. Whisk together 2 cups of
the water and the tomato
paste till the consistency
is even. Then add the
beef seasoning and whisk
again till the consistency
is even.
6. Pour the sauce over the
meat and veggies. Add
the rest of the water (3
cups) and stir everything
together.
7. Set your crock pot for 8
hours on low or 5 hours
for high.
8. 15 minutes before you
want to eat add the peas
and stir well.
9. Serve hot in sourdough
bread bowls or with
cornbread. Enjoy!
